Meeting through the sohohouse x creative fellowship mentorship program, Chantae and I developed the face and brand of her newly launched Toronto Magazine. Using an attractive bright colour palatte and Chantae’s love of plants. I designed a cover page that brought forth the ideas of pushing through stagnation, developing your skills, and blossoming as a creative.
"GROWTH AND CREATIVITY"
Before diving into the creation of the cover page, I persuaded Chantae to begin the process of branding her magazine. I provided Chantae with my graphic design client form for her to fill out, after reviewing the completed design form. I arranged a zoom meeting to further discuss the form and her ideas. Given samples of other popular magazines for inspiration. The aim was to create a sophisticated yet fun magazine that focused on Toronto talent.
I produced a unique typeface logo that took inspiration from a mash up of Vogue and Fiasco fashion magazines. Once the branding was approved and given only two words growth and creativity, I pitched the idea of using a paper cut technique as the style for the first issue of Candize magazine. I vectorized images of plants, had the images cut from paper through a Cricut machine and hand placed every leaf and bloom as well as photograph, edit and submitted the digital photographs to Chantae to be printed.
Using the same paper cut technique, I was able to recreate Chantae’s head shot as a unique illustration for her portrait on the editors page.
