Sinuous Affirmation
Sinuous / Signage
This project is an exploration of experimental typography through technical, sculptural form and deconstructed backgrounds. Inspired by the theme of sinuous signage where sinuous refers to flowing curves and turns, and signage is the use of public and commercial visual language. I set out to create a typographic piece that merges organic form with bold, attention grabbing display.
The concept combines topographical art, a three-dimensional representation of landscapes and elevation, with the visual language of neon signage. A playful quote, “Love your curves, girl,” sits at the center of the composition, referencing both body positivity and the flowing, organic contours found in topographical forms. This dual meaning allows the typography to operate both conceptually and visually, blending message and material.
Illuminated Contours
Throughout the fabrication process, I developed a hand-drawn topographical layout that guided the placement of the typography. Holes were drilled into the surface to weave neon LED string through the piece, creating illuminated letterforms and pathways that activate the sculpture. The highly polished black acrylic base enhances reflection and contrast, allowing the neon light to disperse across the surface and stand out against the dark background. The result is a sculptural typographic artwork that celebrates curvature, movement, and tactile interaction through light, form, and material.
